What are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are long, narrow streaks or stripes that occur when the skin is stretched too quickly. They
are deep tears or rips through the deep skin layers and contain scar tissue which is tough. These marks can
be seen on the stomach, breasts, upper arms, hips and thighs.
Causes?
Pregnancy, puberty, and rapid weight gain can all cause stretch marks as skin is forced to suddenly stretch beyond its elastic capacity, causing a “tear”. Teenagers may  notice stretch marks after a sudden growth spurt.
Corticosteroid creams, lotions, and pills can cause stretch marks by thinning out and decreasing the skin’s ability to
stretch as it should.
Treatment
Laser resurfacing and Skin micro needling are known to be beneficial in the fading of stretch marks. With skin micro needling, a dermaroller or micropen with needles at least 2mm long is used to penetrate into the scar tissue of the stretch marks. The skin is prompted to begin a natural healing process, inducing collagen formation. Visible improvement is noted after 3 – 5 sessions.
