Try These 11 Effective Home Remedies For Happy Skin.

Dry skin, also known as xerosis, is a skin condition that lacks moisture. The skin in this condition is very irritable and if left untreated can cause infection. So, it is crucial to take care of your skin all the time especially in the cold months and for that, you do not have to rush to a dermatologist all the time. Here are some tried and tested home remedies to make your skin look happy and smooth.

01. Coconut oil

Coconut oil has several health benefits. This oil has emollient properties and works well for dry skin. Emollients hydrate the skin and makes it smooth by filling up the gap between the skin cells. You can apply a few drops of coconut oil before going to bed at night for soft skin.

02. Petroleum jelly

Petroleum jelly is also known as mineral oil and it has been used on the skin for many years. It forms a protective layer on the skin and traps the moisture underneath. It is very helpful to heal dry and patchy skin.

03. Oatmeal baths

Add some oatmeal powder to your bath or you can also try creams that contain oatmeal to get some relief from dry and itchy skin. As per a study, oatmeal has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, which is very good for dry skin.

04. Sunflower seed oil

Sunflower seed oil is another natural oil that helps skin to retain its moisture. Sunflower seed is rich in Vitamin E that traps moisture inside the skin cells and keeps it hydrated for a long time. The oil also prevents several diseases such as asthma, arthritis and triggers the cell renewal process as well.

05. Honey

Honey is an ideal choice to treat dry skin. It has numerous vitamins, antioxidants and has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties and can be applied on the skin directly. You can apply it as a face mask and rinse with lukewarm water. Honey can also be used with oatmeal to treat skin dryness.

06. Avocado mask

Homemade avocado masks are the best for nourishing and revitalizing skin. Mash the pulp of avocado in a bowl and mix a teaspoon of olive oil and honey in it. Apply the mixture on your face and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off.

07. Olive oil and sugar scrub

Exfoliate your skin to get rid of the dead cells with olive oil and sugar scrub. Mix half teaspoon of sugar with 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Gently rub it on your skin and then wash it off. This scrub removes dry skin and protects your skin from sun damage.

8. Add a cap full of oil to your bath water.

A cap of oil, when added to your bath water, helps leave your skin even more hydrated than before you hopped in.

9. Use warm water and limit bath time.

Long showers or baths and hot water remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower to five to 10 minutes and use warm, not hot water.

10. Apply moisturizers immediately after bathing.

Gently pat your skin dry with a towel so that some moisture remains.
Within a couple of minutes of bathing, apply moisturizing cream or ointment to trap moisture in your skin.

11. Reapply moisturizer more frequently during the day.

Moisturizers provide a seal over your skin to keep water from escaping. Apply moisturizer several times a day and after bathing.

You may also want to use cosmetics that contain moisturizers. If your skin is extremely dry, you may want to apply an oil, such as baby oil, while your skin is still moist. Oil has more staying power than moisturizers do and prevents the evaporation of water from the surface of your skin. Another possibility is ointments that contain petroleum jelly (Vaseline). These may feel greasy, so you might want to use them only at night.
